Question

A solid cylinder has total surface area of 48π cm2 Its curved surface area is 58 times of its total surface area. Find the radius and the height of the cylinder.

Open in App
Solution

Let r and h be the radius and height of the cylinder.
Total surface area =48πcm2
2πrh+2πr2=48π
2π(rh+r2)=48π
rh+r2=48π2π
rh+r2=24 …………(i)
and curved surface area =58 total surface area
2πrh=58.48π
2πrh=30π
rh=30π2π
rh=15 …………….(ii)
From (i),
15+r2=24
r2=2415
r2=9
r=3cm
From (ii)
h=15r
h=153
h=5cm
Hence radius =3cm
Height =5cm.
