Step 2. Calculation of density of the solid (ρs)

The various forces acting on the solid in various directions are shown below

From the figure above, it is clear that

Weightofthesolid=buoyantforce

mg=ρwgvi …………(a)

Where m=massofthesolid=ρsv …………..(b)

ρw=densityofwater

Using equation (b) in equation (a) and using the given values, we get

ρs×v×g=0.84v×ρw×gρs=0.84×ρw

But, ρw=1gm/cm3

ρs=0.84×1ρs=0.84gcm-3

The density of solid is 0.84 g/cm3.
