A solid insulating sphere of radius R is charged uniformly. At what distance from its surface is the electrostatic potential half of the potential at the centre?
We know,
The potential at an point inside the insulating sphere is given by,
Vr=kQ2R(3−r2R2)
∴Vo=3kQ2R
Also for a point outside the surface,
Vp=kQR+r
We know, Vo=2Vp
∴3kQ2R=2kQR+r
∴r=R3
