A solution containing 10g per dm3 of urea (molecular mass =60gmol1) is isotonic with a 5 solution of a non-volatile solute. Calculate the molecular mass of this non-volatile solute.

According to the equation, 10g per dm3 of urea is isotonic with 5% solution of non volatile solute. Therefore, Molar conc. of 5% non volatile solute=50g/dm3Mol wt. of non volatile soute

Since we know that both solutions are isotoic to each other, hence,
16=5m; where m=50×6=300g/mol.
