Question

A solution contains 50 g of sugar in 450 g of water. Calculate the concentration in terms of mass by mass percentage of the solution.

Open in App
Solution

  • Mass of solute (sugar) = 50 g

  • Mass of solvent (water) = 450 g

  • Mass of solution = Mass of solute + Mass of solvent = 50 g + 450 g = 500 g.

  • m/m% = (Mass of solute/ Mass of solution ) × 100
    or, m/m % = (50/500) × 100
    or, m/m% = 10%
