Question

A solution of silver nitrate was stirred with iron rod. Will it cause any change in the concentration of silver and nitrate ions? E o Fe 2+/Fe = -0.44V ; E o Ag + /Ag = +0.80V

Solution

Dear Student,

As per question statement the mixing of silver nitrate with iron rod makes a change in concentration change for Ag+ ion it decreases but have no influence on NO3- ions hence no change seemed with it.The reaction scheme is,2Ag++Fe 2Ag + Fe2+by using given data of E (cell) we get,Ered=+0.80 VEoxid=-0.44 VEcell= +0.80-0.44 = 0.36 V
