Question

A solution of urea (M. mass 60 g/mol) freezes at 1.24 oC. If cryoscopic and ebullioscopic constants for water are 1.86 and 0.51 K kg/mol respectively, then at what temperature (in oC) would the above solution boil at one atmospheric pressure?

Solution

Tf=Kfm=1.86 m
m=1.241.86
So,
Tb=Kbm=0.51×1.241.86
Tb=0.34 oC
So, boiling point =100+0.34=100.34 oC
