Universal indicator is a solution which undergoes several color changes over a wide range of pH. It a mixture of dyes and several indicators. They are used (especially as indicator paper) in differentiating acids and alkalis. The other indicators show changes only when they encounter acid or a base but not when a strong acid/ base is compared against the weak acid/base.
