A sonometer wire having a length of 1.50 m between the bridges vibrates in its second harmonic in resonance with a tuning fork of frequency 256 Hz. What is the speed of the transverse wave on the wire ?

First harmonic be f0.

Second harmonic be f1.

f1=2f0

f1=256 Hz

1st harmonic or fundamental frequency

f0=f12=2562=128 Hz

λ2=1.5 m

λ=3m

[When fundamental wave is produced]

Wave speed = V

=f0λ=128×3=384 m/s
