Question

A sound wave of wavelength 0.332 m has a time period of 1/1000 s. If the time period is decreased to 1/10000 s, calculate the wavelength

Open in App
Solution

T1 = 10-3 s

ν1 = 1/10-3 = 103 Hz

T2 = 10-4 s

Frequency of the new wave ν2 = 1/T2

= 1/10-4 = 104 Hz

λ = 0.332 m

Velocity = ν1 λ

= 0.332 × 103 = 332 ms-1

Velocity now is independent of frequency so,

V = λ2 ν2

=> 332 = λ2 × 104

=> λ2 = 332×10-4 m
