A source is producing sound in a particular medium. If the wavelength of a sound wave produced by the source decreases, then the frequency of sound wave
increases
The velocity of sound is constant in a particular medium. I.e. The velocity of sound does not depend upon the characteristics of the sound wave.
We know relation between speed of sound v , frequency (ν) and wavelength (λ) is given by:
v=ν × λ
Velocity of sound v is constant
ν=vλ
⟹ Frequency (ν) is inversely proportional to wavelength (λ).
So, if wavelength (λ) decreases then frequency (ν) increases.
