Let △K be the additional kinetic energy imparted to the spaceship to overcome the gravitation pull then K=GMm2R
Total kinetic energy =GMm2R+△K=GMm2R+GMm2R=GMmR then 12mv22=GMmR→v2=√2GMR
But v1=√GMR. So Additional velocity =v2−v1=√2GMR−√GMR=(√2−1)√GMR.
