Question

A sphere and a cube have the same surface area. Show that the ratio of the volume of the sphere to that of the cube is 6:π

Open in App
Solution

Let, r be the radius of the sphere and a be the edge of the cube.

Given, that sphere and cube have same surface area,
So,
4πr2=6a2
(ra)2=64π
(ra)2=32π
ra=32π.......(1)

Now,
Ratio of their volumes
=43πr3a3

=4πr33a3

=4π3×(ra)3

=4π3×(32π)3

=4π3×32π×32π

=6π

=6:π

Hence proved.
