Question

A sphere with diameter 6cm is put into the water-filled in a cylindrical vessel with diameter 12cm. How much the water level in the vessel will rise?

Open in App
Solution

Given,Diameter of sphere =6cm radius (r)=62=3cm
Volume of sphere =43πr3
=43×227×(3)3
Diameter of cylindrical vessel = 12cm radius (R)=122=6cm
When the sphere is put into the vessel, the water level rises by h.
Volume of sphere = volume of water rise into the cylinder.
43πr3=πR2h43×3×3×3=6×6×h
h=4×3×3×33×6×6=108108=1cm
Hence water level will rise in vessel=1cm
