A sprinter in a 100 m race, covers 4 m in 1 second, 30 m in the next 4sec, 52 m in another 4 sec and finishes the race in 10 sec. Calculate the average velocity of the sprinter?

The total displacement is 100 m.

Sprinter covers 4 m in 1 second.

Then 30 m in the next 4sec.

And 52 m in another 4 sec.

The total time taken by him to finish the race is 10 sec.

We know that;

Averagevelocity=TotaldisplacementcoveredTotaltimetaken

Step 3: Finding average velocity

Averagevelocity=10010=10m/sec.

Hence, the average velocity of a sprinter is 10 m/s.
