A square is made of 5 identical rectangles. The perimeter of each rectangle is 36 cm. What is the area of the square?

Open in App
Solution

Since a square is made of 5 rectangle
Area of sqaure = 5*Area of Rectangle.

To find area of Rectangle
Given Perimetrer =36
i.e 2(x + y) =36 (Let x be length and be breadth of rectangle.)
x + y =18
If we arrange the rectangle one on top of the other we need x=5y in order to get Square.
so y + 5y =18
=> 6y=18
=>y=3
and x=15

So area of square =5(x*y)=5*15*3=5*45=225.
It is unnecesary to consider other arrangements.

Hope this helps :)
