So, the area of the rectangle = length $\times$ breadth = 8$\times$6 = 48 $c{m}^2$
Also, area of each square = side $\times$ side = 2 $\times$ 2 = 4 $c{m}^2$
Now, according to the question:
Area of resulting shape = area of rectangle – 4 $\times$ area of each square
= 48 – 4$\times$4
= 48 – 16
= 32 $c{m}^2$
