Question

A square of side 4cm is inscribed in a circle. Find the area enclosed between the circle and square.

Open in App
Solution

The diagonal of the square equals the diameter of the circle

By Pythagoras theorem Diagonal = √(4² + 4²) = 5.657 cm
Radius = 5.657 / 2 = 2.828 cm

Area between circle and square = Area of circle - area of square (π=22/7)
= 22/7 × 2.828² - 4²
= 9.143 cm²
