A square-shaped field has an area of 169$sq.m$. An L-shaped trench is dug up within the boundary of the field along two of its sides. If the trench is 2$m$ wide. find the reduced area of the field.

Area of square $=169m^2$

$a^2=169$

$\Rightarrow a=13$

Area of the remaining area $=(13-2)(13-2)$

$=11\times 11=121m^2$

($\because$ The remaining area is also a square) .

The reduced area $=169-121=48m^2.$
