Question

A square sheet of paper has a side of 10 cm. A triangular piece is removed from one of its comers as shown. Find the area of the remaining part of the paper sheet.

Solution

$$AB=10-8=2$$cm
$$AC=10-6=4$$cm
Area of ABC$$=\dfrac{1}{2}\times AB\times AC$$
$$=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 2\times 4=4cm^2$$
Area of square $$=10^2=100cm^2$$
Remaining area $$=100-4$$
$$=96cm^2$$.
