Question

A square yard has area 1764 m2. From a corner of this yard, an-other square part of area 784 m2 is taken out for public utility. The remaining portion is divided in to 5 equal square parts. What is the perimeter of each of these equal parts?

Area of the remaining portion = 1764 − 784 = 980 m2

∴ Area of one part out of 5 equal parts = (980 ÷ 5) m2 = 196

Side of the square of area 196 m2 =

∴Perimeter of each small square part = (14 + 14 + 14 + 14) m = 56 m
