Question

A squirrel of mass m climbs slowly on a thin straight vertical rod of length 8 m. Mass of rod is negligible. Due to the weight of squirrel, the rod rotates and a restoring torque cθ is developed. If c = 2 mgL, then maximum length that squirrel can climb on rod without touching ground is (Write upto two digits after the decimal point.)

Solution

mgl=cθ

mgl=2mgLπ2

l=πL
So, l is more than L (L = 8).
Therfore, it can travel the entire length of the rod which is 8 m.
