Solution

(a) Charles law states that the volume of an ideal gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature at constant pressure.
(b)
(i) Graphical representation of Charles law. The graph between V and T at constant pressure is known as isobar

(ii) Mathematical expression of
Charles Law is expressed as:
VITI=VFTF
where
VI=Initial volume
VF=Final volume
TI=Intial absolute temperature
TF=
Final absolute temperature
It is extremely important to remember the temperatures are absolute temperatures measured in Kelvin, not °C or °F.
(iii) Significance of Charles's law
1. In winters when the weather is cool, the capacity of the human lung decreases. This makes it more difficult for the athletes to perform on a freezing winter day and it also makes it difficult for people to go jogging.
2. Cable wires contract in winters and expand in summers.
3. Hot air is filled in balloons is used for meteorological purposes.
