Solution

The correct option is D

9/4

Step 1: Given data

Distance of a point P from the source, r1=4m

Distance of a point Q from the source, r2=9m

Step 2: Find the ratio of intensities, I1/I2

For an isotropic point source of power, P=I(4Ļ€r2)

The intensity I at a distance rfrom it =P/4Ļ€r2

Since power P remains the same,

(I1/I2)=(r2/r1)2=(9/4)2

Step 3: Find ratio of amplitudes, A1/A2

A1/A2=āˆš(I1/I2)=9/4

Hence, option (D) is correct.
