A steel block of mass 10 kg rests on a horizontal floor as shown in the figure (a). When three iron cylinders are placed on it as shown in the figure (b), the block and cylinders go down with an acceleration 0.2 m/s2. The correct option is B 686 N

Assuming all four blocks are as a system.

Writing the force equation on the system in vertical direction,

MgR=Ma

(10+(3×20))10R=(10+(3×20))×0.2

R=70(100.2)=686 N

Hence, option (B) is the correct answer.
