The allowable stress in the splice plate is 240MPa. The thickness (in mm, rounded off to the multiple of 2) of the splice is: (Take the width of splice plate is 250mm)

The correct option is B 6mm
Since column ends are flushed, hence 50 % of load is transfered through the splice and fastenings.

The load on each splice plate =1200×1034=300×103N

Sectional area of splice plate =300×103240N/mm2

=1250mm2.

Thickness of splice plate =1250250=56mm
