A steel wire is 1 m long and 1 mm2 in area of cross section. If it takes 200 N to stretch this wire by 1 mm. How much force will be required to stretch a wire of same material as well as same cross-section area from its normal length of 2 m by a length of 20 mm?

We know, Young Modulus (Y)=F/AΔl/l
Where, FA= Normal stress
Δl= Change in length
l= Original length
Δl=FlAY
Since, A,Y remain constant in this case.

So, Δl1Δl2=F1l1F2l2
Substitute the values, F1=200 N
l1=1 m
Δl1=1 mm
l2=2 m
Δl2=20 mm
1×10320×103=200×1F2×2
F2=2000 N
