Question

A stone is projected vertically upwards with a velocity of 20m/s. if the stone reaches a hight of n meters find the value of n taking the acceleration due to gravity to be 10m/s

Solution

Dear Student ,
Here in this case the initial velocity is u =20 m/s
Final velocity is v =0
So let us take that time taken is 't' .
So , from equation of motion we can write that ,
v = u -gt
or , u = gt
or , t = u /g = 20/10 = 2 s
So the height acquired by the stone in 2 s is ,
h = ut - 1/2gt2 = 40 - 20 = 20 m
or , n = 20 m
