Wire will be attracted from both sides along its length by the water molecules.
Length of wire, l=5 cm
Length of wire on which surface tension is acting, L=2×l=2×5 cm=10 cm
The extra force 728 dyne is required to counter the force due to surface tension, on the wire.
Force (F) experienced due to surface tension (T) is expressed as,
F=T×(2l)
728 dyne=T dyne/cm×10 cm
T=72.8 dyne/cm
