We have the wave equation for transverse stationary wave as.

y=Asin(kx)cos(ωt)

From the given equation, we can see that
k=6π m1

λ=2πk=2π6π=13 m

Now, in the third overtone mode, four loops are present as shown below.


The size of one loop is λ2, therefore total length of the wire is,

l=4×λ2=2λ=2×13

l=23 m
