Question

A student carried out a chemical reaction between 14.55g of aqueous silver chloride and 8.5g of aqueous sodium nitrate 5.85g of sodium chloride was formed. what is mass of silver nitrate formed
(a)17.5g (b)17.2g (c)18.05g (d)18g

Solution

The reaction is :
AgCl + NaNO3 NaCl + AgNO3
Mass of AgCl = 14.55 g
Mass of NaNO3 = 8.5 g
Mass of NaCl = 5.85 g
Let mass of AgNO3 = x
According to law of mass of conservation ,mass of reactants = mass of products
Hence , 14.55 + 8.5 = x + 5.85
x = 17.2 g
