Solution
A simple and easy way to differentiate between the monocot and dicot flower is to count the number of floral parts (petals, stamens etc.,). The number of floral parts in the flower of a monocot plant is usually divisible by multiples of 3 (most commonly 3 or 6 floral parts are present). In a dicot flower, the number of floral parts is usually multiples of either 4 or 5 (e.g. 4, 5, 10 etc). Therefore, the student must have counted the floral parts and came to the conclusion that it was a flower of a monocot plant.
