During the experiment for determining that germinating seeds release CO${}_2$ during respiration, the water rise in water level indicates the desired result. This may not be achieved due to one of the following reasons:

• KOH solution may be missing in the setup or may be old. In such cases the evolved CO${}_2$ may not be absorbed due to which the water level may not rise.
• The setup needs to be sealed with vaseline to make it airtight so that the evolved CO${}_2$ does not leak out. If this is not done properly the desired result may not be obtained.
