Question

A student performing an experiment to find the period of second pendulum obtained the following results. 1.96 a, 2.00 s, 1.94 s, 2.04 s and 2.06 s. Find absolute error, relative error, percentage error in the measurement.

Solution

1.96,2.001.94,2.04,2.06
Arithmetic mean =1.96+2.00+1.94+2.04+2.065=1.105=2
Absolute error
a1=1.962=0.04
a2=2.002=0
a3=1.942=0.06
a4=2.042=0.4
a5=2.062=0.6
Mean of absolute error =a1+a2+a3+a4+a55
=0.04+00.06+0.4+0.65=0.95=0.18
Relative error =0.182=0.09
x of relative error =0.182×100=9x
