Solution

The correct options are
A Weight hung and length increased
B Stress applied and length increased.
C Stress applied and strain developed.
D Length increased and weight hung.
Weight hung with the metal wire will apply force and stress and strain both will develop in wire.

We know, Young's modulus is,
Y=stressstrain
Y=σε
ε=1Yσ ...(1)
On comparing Eq.(1) with equation of a straight line y=mx+c, we can see m=1Y and (1) represents equation of a straight line passing through origin.

We can also write,
Y=FLAΔL
ΔL=(LAY)F ...(2)
where, F is weight, ΔL is increase in length.

On comparing Eq.(2) with equation of straight line y=mx+c, we can see m=LAY, c=0 and (2) is an equation of a straight line passing through origin.

Again Y=FLAΔL=σLΔL
[σ=FA]
ΔL=LYσ ...(3)
[σ=stress and ΔL=Length increased]
on comparing Eq.(3) with equation of straight line y=mx+c
we can see m=LY and (3) is also an equation of straight line passing through origin.

Again,
Y=FLAΔL
F=YALΔL ...(4)
Here, F= weight and ΔL= Length increased
On comparing Eq.(4) with equation of staright line y=mx+c, we can see m=YAL and Eq. (4) also represents equation of straight line passing through origin.
Hence, all options (a),(b),(c),(d) are correct.
