A student prepared the solutions of
1. an acid
2. a base in two separate beakers.
She forgot to label the solutions and litmus paper is not available in the laboratory. Since both the solutions are colourless, how will she distinguish between the two?
In the absence of a litmus paper, a reagent called phenolphthalein can be used. The solution which turns pink in colour with phenolphthalein is a base and the other solution is an acid.
