Zwitter ion is a molecule or ion having separate positively and negatively charged groups. The amine functional group can take up a hydrogen in solution and form -NH3+ ion, and the carboxyl group can lose a hydrogen to for COO- and the sulphonyl group can also lose a hydrogen to form SO3-. Therefore the molecules having an NH2 group and either the -COOH group or -SO3H group can form zwitter ion.
