Solution

The correct option is B False

Formation of sulphide ion from sulphur atom:

  1. The atomic number of Sulphur (S) is 16.
  2. Thus, the electronic configuration of Sulphur is (2,8,6).
  3. From the electronic configuration, the number of valence electrons of Sulphur are 6.
  4. To have eight electrons in the valence shell i.e. to complete an octet, Sulphur atom gains 2 electrons.
  5. As 2 electrons are gained, Sulphur atom gains two negative charges and becomes a Sulphide anion (S2-).
  6. The reaction is: S+2e-→S2-.
  7. Thus, Sulphide ion has a negative charge.

Therefore, the given statement is false.
