Question

A sulphur atom contains 16 protons and 16 neutrons. Give its atomic number and atomic mass number.

Open in App
Solution

Total number of protons in sulphur atom = 16

Total number of neutrons in sulphur atom = 16

Atomic number = Total number of protons present in the atom

So, atomic number of sulphur atom = 16

While atomic mass number = Number of protons + number of neutrons

So, atomic mass of sulphur atom = 16 + 16 = 32
