Question

A super car moving at a speed of 200 km/h ejects its exhaust particles at a speed of 800 km/h relative to the car. Find the speed of the exhaust with respect to an observer standing on the road side?

Open in App
Solution

Given that,

Speed of the carVc=200km/h

Relative speed of the exhaust with respect to the car VE=800km/h

Let the relative speed of the exhaust with respect to the observer =VOE=VOE

So,

VC=VOEVE

VOE=VC+VE

VOE=200800

VOE=600km/h

The negative sign indicates that the exhaust is moving in a direction opposite to the car.
