Question

A swimming pool is 40 m long and 15m wide. Its shallow and deep ends are 1.5 m and 3 m deep  respectively.  If the bottom of the pool slopes uniformly, find the amount of water in liters required to fill the pool.

Solution

The correct option is A 13,50,000 litres
Vol. of Swimming pool $$=$$ Vol. of cuboid + Vol. of the triangular part
Vol. of cuboid of length$$=40$$,breadth$$=15$$,height$$=1.5$$ $$=40 \times 15 \times 1.5=900 m^3$$
Vol. of triangular part $$=40$$,height $$=1.5$$,length $$=15$$,$$=\displaystyle \frac{1}{2} \times 40 \times 15 \times 1.5$$$$=450 m^3$$
$$\therefore $$ volume of swimming pool$$=900+450=1350 m^3=1350000 litres$$
