Solution

The correct option is C 10.67

When unpolarized light passes through polaroid P1, intensity of light coming out of P1 is, I1=I02
where, I0= intensity of incident light.

Now, this transmitted light is polarized and it passes through the polarizer P2.
So, intensity I2 transmitted is obtained by Malu's law.
I2=I1cos2θ

As angle of pass axis of P1 and P3 is 90 and angle of pass axis of P2 and P3 is 60, so angle between pass axis of P1 and P2 is (9060)=30

So, I2=I02cos230=I02×(32)2=38I0

When this light pass through third polarizer P3, the intensity I transmitted through P3 is again obtained by using Malu's law.
So, I=I2cos260=(38I0)cos260
=38I0×(12)2=332I0

So, ratio =I0I=32310.67

Hence, (C) is the correct answer.
