The tension in the membrane can be changed by changing the tension and desired frequency of sound is obtained. Therefore, to adjust the frequency of sound, a tabla player tighten or loosens the band tying down the membrane. The frequency of the tabla can be varied by increasing or decreasing the tightness of the membrane.
