Let the gap between the hole A and hole B is x
For hole A,
Velocity of efflux =2g(x+h)
Range R=2h(x+h).....(1)
For hole B,
Velocity of efflux =2gh
Range, R=2h(x+h).....(2)
But, range of liquid from hole A and B are equal.
So, from equation (1) & (2),
2h(x+h)=2h(x+h)
Squaring on both sides,
h(x+h)=h(x+h)
hx+hh=hx+hh
h=h
hh=1
