A tank open at the top is made of iron sheet 4 m wide. If the dimensions of the tan 12 m $\times$ 8 m $\times$ 6 m, find the cost of iron sheet at Rs 17.50 .per metre.

Dimensions of the open iron tank
= $12m\times 8m\times 6m$
$\therefore$ Surface area (without top)
= $2(l\times b)\times h+lb$
= $2(12+8)\times 6+12\times 8m^2$
= $2\times 20\times 6+96=240+96m^2=336m^2$
Width of sheet used = 4 m
$\therefore$ Length of sheet = $\frac{Area}{b}=\frac{336}{4}$ m = 84 m
Rate of sheet = Rs. 17.50 per m.
$\therefore$ Total cost = Rs. 17.50 $\times$ 84 = Rs. 1470
