A taxi was hired for a round trip from city A to B . It covered a distance of 500 km in 7 hours and returned in 6 hours covering 500 km . Find the average speed of the taxi for the whole journey. Is it same as average velocity.

From A to B he covered 500km
Then,again return from B to A and covered 500km.
so,
Total distance=500+500

Total time=7+6

Since,


Hence,average speed=Total distance travelled/total time taken = 1000/13 = 76.92km/hr

Now,

As in this case he ruturn to his starting point means initial and final position are same.
So,displacement =0



Hence,
Average velocity=0
