  • The thin plate of copper should be attached to the negative terminal of the battery. (0.5 marks)
  • This is because the copper ions from the positive terminal will get attracted to the negative terminal. Only the copper from the impure rod will get transferred to the negative terminal and we will get pure copper at the cathode. (0.5 marks)
  • The impurities will not get attracted to the negative terminal. They will stay near the anode and make anode mud of impurities. (0.5 marks)
