Linear charge density of wire, λ=+10 nC/m


Considering two symmetrically infinitesimal elements dl on the ring and that segment has a charge dQ and acts as a point charge.

All the radial force components on charge elements (dQ) get cancelled due to symmetry.

So, the parallel component of force (dF) interaction between dQ and semi-infinite charged wire will be,

dF||=dQkλR

doing integration of parallel force components

F||=dQkλR

F||=kλRdQ

F||=kλQR

F||=9×109×10×109×101

F||=900 N

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
