Question

A torch bulb is rated 5V and 500mA.

Calculate its b. resistance

Open in App
Solution

Step 1- Given data and formulas,

  1. Applied voltage V=5V
  2. Current through the bulb I=500mA

According to Ohm's law,

V=IR

Where R is the resistance.

Note: 1mA=10-3A

Step 2- Finding the resistance,

Substitute the values of electric current and applied voltage into the formula to find the resistance of the bulb.

5V=500×10-3A×RR=50.5R=10Ω

Thus, the resistance of the bulb is 10Ω.
