Question

A toroid has a core (non-ferromagnetic) of inner radius 25 cm and outer radius 26 cm, around which 3,500 turns of a wire are wound. If the current in the wire is 11 A, then what is the magnetic field (in Tesla) inside the core of the toroid?

Solution

Mean radius of the toroid,
r=inner radius+outer radius2

r=25+262=25.5×102m

The total length of the toroid,

l=2πr=2π×25.5×102
l=51π×102m

Number of turns per unit length,
n=total no.of turnstotal length

n=350051π×102

Magnetic field inside the toroid,
B=μ0ni

B=4π×107×350051π×102×11

B=0.03 T

Therefore, magnetic field is 0.03 T.
